This portrait was painted from a vintage photo of a strange couple for A Cabinet of Curious Characters show. I spent a lot of time with these two mysterious strangers and decided to put them In Between the worlds. It’s unclear if they are good or bad, happy or sad. They are stuck in black substance, silently observing the life in the room.
We were allowed to show just one painting in the show, and the possibilities just blew my mind. After painting In Between, I knew I wanted to continue exploring all my ideas, and that’s how I started the 3 Boys series.
